ooc: still very early, maybe 4:15ish? no people around that you notice however...
About 10-15 meters back, Toby spots something stirring in the brush just next to the stairs pathway. You glance ahead but Adam hasn't noticed you've stopped and is slowly pulling away. Turning back the 'thing' roughly man-sized has made it's way onto the lower steps... it's dark and hard to make out... a man? a wild animal?
Detect Magic (P): EX 16 ยท Cost: 1 Health pt per 1-10 rounds activation (max of one minute per usage)
Go ahead a give me a Detect FEAT roll at EX; and include a d10 as well for the duration if successful (if not we'll ignore that d10 result)

Even though frightened, Toby remembers and whispers a quick incantation (Yellow result on EX) , his voice reverberating unnaturally like an echo of itself; his eyes glow a slight warm light and he takes small pleasure knowing that he'd remembered the spell which "detects the presence of magic" near perfectly.... yet, he detects none. None from the figure below, slowly making its way up the stairs leaning against the sole middle bar railing; none detected from the mighty tower just yards ahead up the remaining steps.
"Hurrrrnnnnn...." groans the shadow, looking more figure like, albeit small and stout.
A gentle gust of cool morning air blows from the direction of the figure up past Toby; there is a familiar yet sour scent. It reminds him of the strong breath of his late step-father, after he'd been sitting by the fireplace perusing old tomes late into the evening with a silver chalice in his hand...
"Toby?" Adam says from up in the distance.
ooc: -1 Health from Detect Magic; 1st-of-5 rds active; btw, nice first use of it even though nothing immediate detected

ooc: It costs only 1 Health for the full 1-10 rds (in this case 1 Health for 5 rds); not 1 per round like the book states which I feel is too extreme, at least for this power

FIRE and sparks begin to swirl and spin from the Godfire, which glows hot orange, like a piece of metal drawn from hot coals; yet Toby's hand does not burn.
Instead, it is replaced, by that of a man's... a glowing man's, the large, powerful hand of.... THE TORCH!!!
His burly, muscular figure erupts onto the scene, strong and stoic where once an adolescent boy stood; his presence instantly illuminates the surrounding area in bright, orange-white light as if an explosion went off, minus the extreme heat of course.
The towering figure of fiery might catches the wide-eyed hobo completely by surprise, a look of horror on his face as if all the demons from his countless empty bottles have suddenly personified. He staggers rapidly backwards to retreat, loosing his footing on the narrow staircase damp from morning fog, a steep drop behind him!
"hhhnnn.. HNNNNAAHHHHH!!!"
ooc: Poor Agility-ed old man, -2CS for being surprised, drunk and wet/semi-slippery conditions, making a FEAT check to maintain balance or take a MAJOR tumble backwards! Conditions are prime that he fail, so he'll need a Yellow to grab the middle rail bar for success...

Close but not cigar ol' timer
The startled hobo pitches backwards, arms flailing uncontrollably, one leg kicking high into the air as he starts to fall, at least one flight of hard concrete steps below down the steep grade!
* Note: Toby's Health adjusted in my sig counter (Detect Magic use); Torch has one round to react before painful impact

With the grace of a parkour panther, The Torch leaps onto the middle rail, sliding with blinding speed and control quickly passing the elderly hobo, whose fall seems to be happening in slow motion; turning his torso in mid-slide, Torch vaults, landing on his feet at the bottom of the stairs just in time to catch the man preventing a grisly impact. Cradled like a baby, the elderly man upon seeing the fiery demigod holding him, expects to feel the burning of a thousand suns and let's out a deathly scream. "rreeaaAAAGGhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!" "WHAT THE FU...?" Adam says, drawing his piece from its inner jacker holster, charging back down the steps towards the too below. ooc: 77=Yellow result, which would result in damage to the old timer; -18 karma spent (Torch) for Red success, ensuring the hobo's safety without harm or injury - good call

ooc: nice "Va...va...vaga..b?" stutters the ol' man, dazzed and confused. He quickly inspects his body, arms, legs, back, noting that nothing is burned. He takes a hard swallow, then fishes a crumpled paper bag wrapped around a bottle out from large cargo pants pocket, then looks back at Torch with squinting eyes. "Hnnn.. nooo more... No more I promise! Th... that's it... I'M DONE!" He turns and bolts away surprisingly fast, chucking the paper bag into a nearby trash can, making a loud, glass cla-clink sound. Adam arrives slowing down, but just in time to catch the ol' timer disappearing with a hobble around the corner. He looks at Torch cautiously. "Uhh... hello... again. Mind telling me what's going on? I thought you only showed up when Toby called for you - or summoned you - whatever he does to get you to show up... ?" While saying this he quickly conceals his pistol in his under-coat holster, and seems to be alertly scanning the surroundings as if searching for witnesses.

ooc: No, Torch doesn't have the dreams nor recollection of anything Toby's been experiencing; they are two separate persona. At best he has a faint trace of why he was summoned i.e., danger in the form of a threat, a feeling of needing to protect, rescue, assist, or help etc., but not exact specifics of a situation.
"Oookaaay," Adam says, his brow furrowed. "Listen, I think this was a false alarm, mister... Torch? I need the kid back. We've gotta get the hell outta here as I'm sure someone's spotted you; in fact, those sirens I'm hearing in the distance tells me either the cops and/or the fire department might already be on the way."
Putting his ears to the wind, Torch does here the wailing of strange sirens in the far distance which seems to be getting louder; though he thought the sirens only lured sailors to their deaths on jagged, rocky outcroppings at sea.
"Torch, I can't be seen with a six-foot flaming titan getting in the car. Three blocks to the south, just over that ridge," he points to the left, "there's an underpass..."
A look of bewilderment strikes Torch's face.
"An underpass?... you know, a cave! Meet me at the cave and then bring Toby back. I'll pick him up there."
Adam runs off northward towards the direction of the Rolls, partially concealing his face with his coat.

The Torch does as directed, easily navigating the streets and makes his way towards the 'cave', occasionally ducking behind a corner to avoid lights from a passing car. Luckily it is still very early, but signs of activity can be seen as the City slowly begins a new day.
He reaches the underpass - hardly a 'cave' as Adam described it, as he can clearly see through the other end; to him it's more a short bridge, which the chariots known as 'cars' in this era use to cross over each other speeding in various directions. Torch approaches and walks underneath the overpass, admiring the various hieroglyphs and strange colored artwork along the walls. Satisfied that no one else is around, he mutters 'Singi', the return word for Toby Koltz.
Moments later, the Rolls pulls up and Toby ducks into the passenger seat. Adam has his game face on; he does not look pleased.
"What the hell, Toby? Lighting up as the Torch in such an open area? You might've been seen! Don't you remember what we talked about!? 'Emergencies Only' remember?"
Toby does recall the conversation Adam refers to; he told him not to summon the Torch unless the situation was dire, and even then, try to find a concealed place, make sure that no one was around if possible because it could be dangerous if folks found out.
