"Gosh Adam, you are right ...I thought that poor man was a monster and reacted. Guess I am jumpy from those nightmares."-Toby lowers his head and folds his arms." "Adam- did Mr. Ward have any books about magical creatures? Maybe I can find pictures of the ones in my dreams..I think it will be important." Also after the meeting today, let's get some Gyros.

Adam takes a deep breath, a relaxed expression returning to his face.
"I'm not upset with you Tobe," he says. "It's just that we don't know everything there is to know about the Godfire amulet and the arcane history of it. And the Torch? Well," he takes a pause and looks at you.
"The guy still puts me on edge. And I've seen a lot of weird things in my time. I mean seriously, punks with knives, thugs with guns etc. I've dealt with their kind before. Some guy in roman armor with his hair on fire and glowing like the sun? He still freaks me out." You both share a light chuckle.
"Greek," Toby corrects him. "Greek, Roman, Trojan whatever. He's a fiery armor-clad, torch-wielding warrior from a different era - a different dimension - not exactly someone you'll see everyday walking the park and sniffing roses. Toby, we know Torch is a good guy, that he's here to help. But others don't. " His expression grows serious again.
"We don't know what kind of reception people will give him, and in my experience, usually when you're different, you're feared. And when you're feared, you're the enemy. It's why we're slowly trying to introduce the Torch into mainstream society, like when we called him to stop that fire at Tony's pizzeria the other night."
Adam slows up as the Rolls nears the Mandarin lobby, a valet in fine red coat uniform waiting out front.
"Toby, it's like this. The Torch is a power beyond anything humanity understands. And with great power..."
(wait for it!)
"with great power, comes great responsibility. Only in Emergencies, deal? "
You nod in agreement.
"Now about those books… I'm not sure. Maybe after we talk financial stuff with Donovan this afternoon we can grab some gyro's and head back to the old Ward estate for a few hours to look through your fath… Mr. Ward's old study. He had all kinds of old books and tomes there. It's a good thing Donovan advised you to liquidate other assets of Ward's first, then sell the estate last; never know when a get away from the city might be useful."

Meetings with Donovan Kane, Chief Financial Advisor of the late Burton Ward's modest financial fortune, were always a drag. But at least Toby was full from crepes which Adam had ordered as soon as you'd both arrived from the morning's "adventure" and he had managed to sleep again for a few more hours after the early breakfast; Toby's pretty certain by his guardian's slight irritableness and sharp tone with Donovan, Adam never was able to get back to sleep. Kane was a short, heavy-set man in his 50's, casually-attired; not someone you'd imagine with the title of 'Chief Financial Advisor.' but he'd explained he was on his way to a grand kid's birthday party soon after the meeting. There was something about him Toby didn't like; but Adam seemed to trust him and he trusted Adam, signing name here, or putting initials there whenever they asked. As much as they tried to water down explanations for Toby, it just wasn't interesting and he was more than glad when they turned the discuss more to each other and left his attention to drift off. He thought about the dreams, and the weird creatures that haunted them. He hoped some answers might be found once they went back to the Ward Estate and he could skim through some books for clues. Plus he was getting hungry again and had Gyros on the brain. That's when something on the news being broadcast on a flat-screen TV in the next room caught Toby's attention. He got up and walked over to up the volume a few notches. "… was released this morning, after serving a 38-year prison sentence. Eighty-five year old Jonathan Hallows aka, 'Snowblind' was released from maximum Federal detention for crimes committed back in 1974. Hallows, at the time a self-proclaimed master of Slavic sorcery and the occult, was found guilty implicated in the deaths of twelve cultist followers found frozen solid in a cabin just outside Reno, Nevada.
'DNA tests have shown that Mr. Hallows has served half his life in prison for crimes he was never truly found fully guilty of. Yes, he did have a obscure past, he was involved in the occult and dabbled with mysticism. But he has since given up anything related to his former occult practices, and has served for years as a outstanding model of reform among the Nevada inmate population,' said Garth Hamilton, Hallow's attorney.
'I am glad to be free,' the eldery Hallows told reporters. 'The first thing I want? Well, I've only false teeth now, so I can't have steak. I think I want... an ice cream. Yes, an ice cream."
Toby's face goes cold white. "Toby? What's wrong?" Adam says, noticing the blood drain from the kid's face. Hallows' face and the face of the wicked, powerful wizard atop the Coit Tower who struck down Torch in his nightmares, are one and the same.

Adam..that man was in my dream. I need to know everything I can about him. I think he plans to destroy the city. I need to find out everything I can about him and..I think while I am it see if he ever crossed paths with a burning man... Toby grabs his laptop and starts a search. "Could you also check into him for me? ask some of your old "friends?"or maybe even hire an investigator to look into it? ooc: are there other superheroes in this world?(like from mainstream comics)just curious.

Adam's taken aback, momentarily caught off guard regarding the "destroy the city", "burning man" and "old friends" comments in front of Donovan who has a puzzled look on his face, but he plays it off.
"Uhh sure thing, bud," Adam says, leaning over to the portly financial advisor. "This one has a healthy imagination. Too many movies." Donovan nods with a wink understandingly.
Toby's internet search on the man Jonathan Hallows doesn't reveal much more than what was learned from the news broacasts: convicted of activities responsible for the "Ice Massacre" in which a dozen cult followers, including women and children, were found frozen in a cabin near Reno, Nevada in 1974. But Hallows seemed to have given up his occult practices during his prison stay for more traditional Christian values, serving as a model inmate of reform and good behavior, well-liked among the general prison population; he worked in the prison's modest library and helped organize a Nevada, 'Scared Straight' outreach program for troubled teens. Nothing of being of would-be city destroyer even remotely suggested.
With gyro's in hand you head back to the Ward Estate. One hand on the wheel, the second balancing his tasty wrap, Adam says with his mouth half-full, "…and that's why we can't be talking about this stuff too openly Toby. Any of it. Torch, magic, my past. Anything. You never know who might be listening."
You nod, cheeks full of gyro, and take a sip of soda.
Reaching the estate, you see Enrique the grounds keeper. He, his wife and daughter live in a small residence on the estate and tend to the general duties of maintaining the place while you're away.
"Ola, Enrique!" says Adam, before switching into full Spanish as they shake hands and exchange friendly small chat. "Hello, it's good to see you senor Koltz," the cheerful grounds keep says.
Ooc: good stuff with that comics link! DL'ed "Batman v. Hulk" a classic *thumbs up*

ooc: same, love the art of the older comics; all the new photoshoppy stuff is too clean, doesn't have that magical touch of imperfection. kind of like low-budget SciFi channel CG vs ol' school Ray Harryhausen movies; you can tell both are fake, but can at least appreciate the work/effort/artistry put into the old claymation stuff.

The door is unlocked and slightly ajar as you approach the estate's huge, main oak doors. The sound of mariachi music can be heard blaring from a hallway in the distance. "Ayye! Senor Koltz!" says Enrique's wife, Lupe, as she sprints to turn the music lower. "So sorry… did not know you ehh... come... coming today," she says with a heavy accent, partly blushing.
Toby explains it's perfectly okay, and offers that she should use the stereo in the main room, not the small boom-box next to her cart of cleaning supplies. Lupe smiles and thankfully declines.
The West estate brings back strange emotions in Toby, it's suffocating and unsettling just stepping foot in these hallways again; at the same time, he grew up here so the familiarity of the feeling is also comforting.
He crosses to a stair case leading up, which "T"s into different directions, then hesitates before taking the right fork, leading to the late Mr. West's study. As a youth he was forbidden certain parts of the house; the upper right wing was one of them.
Passing a large window he peers outside to see Adam and Enrique still talking, laughing. Adam had helped him get a job with Mr. West many years ago; they have history together. Taking a breath, Toby continues, the corridor turning left and getting darker.
Toby's only been down to this side of the mansion a few times, always in the company and close surveillance of West; he doesn't like it here at all. He comes to a great dark wood door, using both hands to press the latch and push the door open with a slow creak. West's study.
The curtains are thick and partially drawn so Toby moves quickly to open them. Still the room is situated on a part of the house where the sun never reaches; his efforts to let in more light yield minimal results at best.
A large desk and chair are next to the window, a few strange ornaments on its surface. A large bookcase lines one wall with several hundred books. Another wall holds shelves with various strange small sculptures and other trinkets. Not wanting to waste anymore time than he has to in this uncomfortable chamber, Toby gets to work perusing the different book spines.
(ooc: alright, gimme 3 Intuition die rolls!)
EDIT: fixed an inconsistency in which 'Lupe' is called by a different name in the following sentence after she's introduced (lol), as well as the West/Ward errors
